| H8/f7 | Clearance | Close running - general purpose running fit |
| H9/d10 | Clearance | Free running - easy assembly, wide clearance |
| H11/h11 | Clearance | Loose running - large tolerances, easy fits |
| H7/k6 | Transition | Location transition - light interference likely |
| H7/m6 | Transition | Location transition - light to moderate interference |
| H7/n6 | Transition | Location transition - moderate interference |
| H7/p6 | Interference | Light press - assembly with light press or shrink |
| H7/r6 | Interference | Medium press - permanent assembly |
| H7/s6 | Interference | Heavy press - high stress, permanent assembly |
About this tool
Calculates hole and shaft limits and the resulting clearance or interference for ISO 286 hole-basis fits.
- Inputs
- Nominal diameter (mm)
- Hole tolerance class (e.g. H7)
- Shaft tolerance class (e.g. g6, k6, p6)
- Assumptions
- Hole-basis system; standard temperature 20 °C
- Fundamental deviations and IT grades per ISO 286 tables
- Round, straight features — no form-error allowance
- Sources
- ISO 286-1 / ISO 286-2
- ANSI B4.2 preferred metric limits and fits
- Valid range
- 1–80 mm nominal; hole classes H6–H11, G7, F7, E9, D10 and shaft classes h, g, f, e, d, k, m, n, p, r, s in the grades listed.
- Limitations
- Sizes above 80 mm and shaft-basis fits are not included
- Does not predict assembly force, press-fit stress, or thermal fit behavior
- Verify against the drawing's referenced standard before final inspection
