About this tool
Converts between Rockwell C, Brinell, Vickers, and approximate tensile strength for steels.
- Inputs
- A hardness value
- Its scale (HRC, HB, or HV)
- Assumptions
- Non-austenitic carbon and alloy steels
- Linear interpolation between the standard's table points
- Tensile strength is an estimate, not a measured property
- Sources
- ASTM E140 standard hardness conversion tables
- Valid range
- HRC 20–65 and the corresponding HB / HV range.
- Limitations
- Not valid for aluminum, copper alloys, stainless with heavy cold work, or cast irons
- Rockwell B and superficial scales are not included
- Use the governing material spec for acceptance decisions
